I couldn't live without music. It is playing in the background at my house everyday, it is only off when the morning news is on, and there is nothing more inspiring than a song that paints the picture for a scene in my head. These particular songs seemed to stand out the most for me, besides my instrumental favourites from Jessita Reyes, Carter Burwell, Howard Shore, Beethoven, Mozart, Paul Cantelon and Yiruma.
Beneath the Surface:
Song Artist
Each book of in this series has a special theme song. This book has three:
Anywhere Evanescence (The lyrics to this song are a dead ringer for how Rion feels about Liss. It gives me
the shivers when I hear it, and I love it so much!)
Glitter in the Air Pink (The song that started this whole book; the song I had to close my eyes and listen to before
I wrote each night—Pink rocks!)
Crashed Chris Daughtry (I'm sure some would feel the lyrics have a different underlying meaning,
but it screams BTS to me... I LOVE Chris Daughtry's music; he has an
incredible talent, which I've loved since his first audition on AI. This would
be the song I'd use if I was talented enough to make a book trailer, though
I know getting permission would be very hard and probably expensive!)
These are the other songs that had a lot of influence to scenes in this particular book:
I'm in Here Sia
I'm With You Avril Lavigne
E.T. Katy Perry (Oh, I love this song)
Human Civil Twilight
November Rain Guns and Roses
Crash Into Me Dave Matthews
Broken Seether featuring Amy Lee
Weightless City and Colour
Can't Help Falling In Love Ingrid Michaelson (Elvis cover I couldn't get enough of)
Without You Three Days Grace
Lost in You Three Days Grace
Fade Me Daniel Wesley
Ever the Same Rob Thomas
Sov Gott Jewel
Oceano Josh Groban
Woke Up This Morning Nickelback (I'd like to say this is Rion's theme song)
One More Day New Edition
Beyond the Borders:
Theme song (again, there are two):
Relight the Fire Robyn and Ryleigh (this song has not yet been released on CD, but I had the pleasure of hearing it
at the Wired Monk one night, and I was almost in tears, thinking how it
influenced three particular scenes in BTB, as well as some major character
arcs along the way--more than just Rion and Liss'. I'm so proud to call these
beautiful ladies my second cousins, they are so talented!!)
Click here to watch it on You Tube.
My Last Breath Evanescence (Amy Lee's voice just resonates with me, and I've known for a while that this song
would be a theme of BTB; it's lyrics helped me tremendously
during the plotting of this book, especially because of the paranormal, horror, and
extreme darkness that envelope this book, which will be much darker than BTS)
As I continue writing BTB, I'll add songs as they come into my scenes in the background. Here are a few:
Just Another Sundown Robyn and Ryleigh
Rain Breaking Benjamin
Farewell, December Matt Nathanson
Love Come Sarah McLachlan (the piano version--oh I LOVE this song. It is so BTB)
Sweet dreams Beyonce (Have you heard the acoustic/piano live version? Wow. Beyonce has the most
beautiful voice and vocal range I've ever heard. She is amazing.)
